Public Holidays

There are Federal public holidays and State public holidays. See Government Holiday Dates.

Standard Federal public holidays include: Christmas Day and Boxing Day (25^th and 26^th Dec). However, if Christmas Day is on a Sunday then the following Monday is a public holiday in lieu of this. There are always two public holidays regardless of when Christmas day falls. New Years Day (or the Monday after), Australia Day (26^th Jan or the Monday after if on a weekend), Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Monday (oddly not Easter Sunday), ANZAC day (25^th April) and the Queens Birthday (second Monday in June).

State Holidays in Victoria are: Labour Day (March) and Melbourne Cup Day (November).

Please note that you will not work these days and will not receive any funds to compensate as this is already built in to your hourly rate. If you do perform work on any of the above days, you are entitled to be paid 2.5 times your usual rate.

Tax

If you do not already have a Tax File Number you will need to apply for one with the Australian Taxation Office. Application forms can be downloaded from the ATO site.

The ATO also require you to complete a Tax File Number Declaration for each employer you work with (NB: WellsGray Recruitment is your employer, not the clients you work with through WellsGray).

TFN Declaration forms can be obtained from the ATO or by contacting WellsGray. All WellsGray Temporary Staff are paid on the basis of 'Labour Hire' (Question 6). Please also be aware that if you select 'NO' for Question 7, you will be taxed at a higher rate.

To find out if you are classified as an 'Australian Resident for Tax Purposes' follow the instructions below to check online:

• Navigate to the ATO website – www.ato.gov.au
• Select the 'Individuals' page
• Select the second option from the menu – 'Your Situation'
• Select 'Travelling/International'
• Select 'Are you a resident for tax purposes?'
• Then, 'Work it out online' and enter your details

If you are still unsure about any of the questions on your TFN Declaration form, our delightful accountant Selina Lee is available on Mondays and Thursdays between 9am – 5pm and will happily point you in the right direction.

Visa

You may work through an agency as long as you like but you cannot serve at one company through an agency for more than six months. WellsGray does not specialise in positions that may lead to sponsorship and will not actively promote this service on behalf of temps.
